Sanyu’s iconic painting Seated Nude, estimated to fetch HK$25-35 million, is set to be the star lot at Bonhams’ first Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art auction on 23 November in Hong Kong.

The sale comprises three sections and over 150 lots. The first section focuses on 20th Century Chinese art, the second on contemporary Asian art and the final one on South East Asian art.

Sanyu  (Chang Yu, 1901-1966) is today among the most recognized Chinese artists of the 20th century. This painting, coming from the famous collection of Henri-Pierre Roché, epitomises Sanyu’s quest to bridge East and West, traditional and contemporary.

Also featured in the sale are Self Portrait by Pan Yuliang (1895-1977), which is estimated to fetch HK$1-1.5 million and Cloudy Mount Huang by Liu Haisu (Chinese, 1896-1994), which is estimated at HK$1.2-1.8 million.
