Spring jewellery auction season opens
Diamonds and items of jewellery estimated to each fetch in excess of $5 million will go on sale at Christie’s New York on April 16.
They feature among more than 250 jewels in a two-session sale at Christie’s flagship Rockefeller Center saleroom. The auction includes a wide range of jewels, including top-quality colourless and coloured diamonds, rare and historic gemstones, natural pearls, and signed jewels from renowned houses such as René Boivin, Cartier, Graff, JAR, Tiffany & Co, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Harry Winston. The sale is expected to achieve in excess of $50 million.
“Our April 16 auction in New York includes a magnificent selection of important diamonds, rare coloured gems, and superb signed jewels,” said Rahul Kadakia, head of jewellery for Christie’s Americas and Switzerland. “The sale offers jewels to the taste of every collector. Going into the spring jewellery season, Christie’s is proud to present collectors the very best jewellery at our sales worldwide.”
Top lots are expected to include a pair of D-colour internally flawless circular-cut diamond ear pendants of 22.60 and 22.31 carats (estimate: $7 million – $10 million) and an oval-cut D-coloour diamond of 40.43 carats (estimate $5.8 million – $7.8 million).
